This is not a time of a single crisis, this is a time of numerous interrelated, interacting, mutually reinforcing crises - it is a time of converging crises. A new Tällberg Foundation project is looking at these questions.
The project “Whence and Whither: Into uncharted waters”
project has emerged out of the Tällberg process. For 30 years, through
workshops and larger Tällberg Forums, new ideas, concepts and
approaches have been formulated and developed to match the complexity
of today’s world. These conversations have brought insights to the many
people who have convened in the different Tällberg conversations. In
some cases, they have been captured in reports and documents. For
instance, in 2005, a set of scenarios were developed, which in
retrospect can be seen to have captured many important dimensions.
This project is a 12 month explorative learning process into the
driving forces behind the turbulence of the present, and the even
deeper changes coming in the future. Through a dozen of workshops and
other activities, and together with about 20 project partners, we are
covering a number of themes, looking for visions of new governance
systems and idealized designs of how the complexity of a truly
globalized and interdependent world could possibly be managed. As of
December 2009, three workshops have taken place, but the bulk of the
journey remains. There is a need for new solutions for managing the
relations between humans, but also the relations between human economic
activity and the systems of nature. Our ambition is that this work will
take us some steps towards providing the answer to the question: “How
on Earth can we Live Together”?
